What is altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness occurs when you cannot get enough oxygen from the air at high altitudes.
This causes symptoms such as a headache, loss of appetite, and trouble sleeping.

When you go too high too fast, your body cannot get as much oxygen as it needs. So you need to breathe faster.
This causes the headache and other symptoms of altitude sickness.

Altitude Sickness Symptoms

  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Insomnia
  • Shortness of breath during exertion
  • Nausea
  • Decreased appetite
  • Swelling of extremities

Advice to prevent altitude sickness

① Climb gradually
Ascending slowly will give your body time to adapt to the change in altitude.
When you get to the fifth station of Mt.Fuji, you'd better take time (1-2 hours).
Ex:Have a lunch, drink water, and walk around...
② Keep well hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids
You need to drink sparely without drinking plenty of water at once.
If the circulation of the blood gets worse, you would be dehydration, and it cause Altitude sickness.
③ Breath deeply
You need to draw a deep breath consciously because you will be short of oxygen
When you get tired.
④ Don't smoke, drink alcohol or use medication such as tranquillisers and sleeping pills while you're at altitude, as they could make any symptoms of altitude sickness worse.
 
⑤ If you begin to show symptoms of moderate altitude sickness, don't go higher until symptoms decrease
If you start to develop mild symptoms of Altitude sickness, stay at your current altitude until your symptoms improve. If your symptoms get worse, immediately descend from your current altitude.
